Namwon County in the North Jeolla Province and Jangseong County in the South Jeolla Province are also located at the same longitude and latitude as Uiryeong. Thanks to its optimum location at the junction of the Nakdong River and the Nam River, Uiryeong features optimal conditions for farming in arable land strips and basins in the mountainous area and strategic advantages for industrial development as the 20th National Road crosses Uiryeong from east to west.
Uiryeong County has the typical climate of mountainous-inland, featuring high temperature gap in a day and throughout a year as well as low precipitation in winter subject to weather conditions in the continental regions and showing the characteristics of oceanic climate under the influences of sea.
Over the past decades, Uiryeong with agro-centered industry was lag behind the rapid Korea¡¯s economic development, which leaded to the decreasing the number of population. However, since the inauguration of local self-governing body in 1995, with the purpose of reinvigorating local economy, Uiryeong vigorously has worked to improve local industrial structure, expand transportation infrastructure, build industrial complexes and invite job-creating businesses. And it also build a dynamic farming community by promoting agricultural infrastructure consisting of better agricultural product distribution system, more stable distribution channel and production base for higher quality products.
Tourism resources of Euiryeong include Chungiksa Temple which worships General Gwakjeu, Eibyeong Jejeon, Culture & Arts Exhibition, Traditional Paper Hanji and Ceramics Experience, Traditional Partition Byeongpung, and cloisonne works. There are also other scattered historical heritages and natural resources like Byeokgye Tourist Attraction, Mt. Hanusan and Mt. Jagulsan.
It seeks balance and harmony in regional development initiatives by dividing Uiryeong into central area including Uiryeong town in the center and 2 west areas centering on Burim-Myeon and Jagul Mountain respectively. |
